Dandenong’s Greek Community will receive $150,000 from the Andrews Labor Government for a major upgrade to the Dandenong Greek Community Hall.

Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, today announced that the Greek Orthodox Community of Dandenong & Districts has been allocated funding from the Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund to restore and upgrade the facilities of the Greek Community Hall at 19 Herbert Street in Dandenong.

This grant will support the Greek community in Dandenong to have a refurbished home to connect with their traditional culture as they participate in, and continue to contribute to, our wider community.

The Dandenong Greek Community Hall was built in the 1970’s and was considered a state of the art facility at the time. Over the years, despite the upkeep and maintenance by the Greek community, the hall is in desperate need of restoration and an upgrade to improve accessibility for all members of the community.

With this Government funding, the Greek Orthodox Community of Dandenong & Districts will be able to upgrade its kitchen facilities, the exterior façade, as well as audio and visual amenities. The upgrades will also include the development of a new foyer entrance with automatic sliding doors, alongside the incorporation of new accessible toilets facilities.

This grant will allow the hall to continue to provide programs and services for the Greek community, as well as new community initiatives, such as a soup kitchen for the wider Dandenong community.

The Andrews Labor Government is committed to promoting an inclusive society where every Victorian is able to preserve and share their culture and traditions, and have spaces that they can make their own.
