JAN WILSON OAM INDUCTED TO HONOUR ROLL FOR WOMEN

Former Member for Dandenong North Jan Wilson will receive a posthumous induction into the 2017  Victorian Honour Roll for Women for her advocacy to improve animal welfare practices across the State.

Mrs Wilson committed her career and life to serving her community, particularly as a local councillor and later as the first State Member for Dandenong North. Following her retirement from politics, Mrs Wilson was appointed to the board of Greyhound Racing Victoria where she led a number of reforms as Chairperson.

In 2009, Mrs Wilson was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia Medal for services to the racing industry and to animal welfare. Her contributions during her career and beyond retirement benefited many, including elderly and migrant residents of the City of Dandenong.

Each year, the Honour Roll celebrates exceptional women in Victoria who have made significant and lasting contributions to their local community, the nation or the world. 2017 inductees will join more than 600 remarkable women named in the Honour Roll since it commenced in 2001.
