DANDENONG REMANUFACTURING BOOST FOR VICTORIA’S CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Victoria’s recycling will receive a major boost thanks to a $36.5 million investment through the Andrews Labor Government together with the Australian Government, with 13 projects across the state receiving funding to upgrade and establish new recycling facilities, including the upgrade and expansion of plastic product manufacturing in Dandenong with Garden City Plastics Pty Ltd.

Garden City Plastics Pty Ltd will receive $5,315,975 to expand its Dandenong facility, with the installation of new equipment which will increase the use of recycled plastic in their production of plant pots.

The grant will allow Garden City Plastics to expand their Dandenong facility, with the addition of 2 new injection moulding production lines, to increase the use of recycled plastic (polypropylene) in their products.

Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, said the project will create 30 full time local ongoing jobs and increase Victoria’s capacity to reprocess up to 5,800 tonnes of garden pots each year.

The thirteen funded projects will enable Victoria to reuse over 137,000 tonnes of plastics, glass and tyres every year and have generated over $86 million in industry investment, bringing total investment value to $122 million.

These projects will involve the manufacturing of recycled materials into new products such as garden pots, railway sleepers and corrugated pipe.

The projects are funded through the Recycling Victoria – Recycling Modernisation Fund (RV-RMF), a partnership between the Victorian and Australian Governments to deliver grant funding over three years.

Funding will support Victoria to meet growing infrastructure requirements resulting from the national waste export ban on certain categories of paper and cardboard, plastics, glass and tyres.
