SAFER CROSSING ON STUD ROAD FOR DANDENONG NORTH LOCALS

Pedestrians and cyclists will soon have safer journeys while walking and riding across a busy intersection in Dandenong North, thanks to the Allan and Albanese Labor Governments.

The intersection of Stud Road and Mcfees Road will have new traffic lights and safer pedestrian crossings installed, making it safer to travel to and from the Dandenong Stadium, the Dandenong Creek Trail and public transport.

A new footpath will be constructed from the intersection of Stud Road and Mcfees Road to the Dandenong Stadium to improve safety for those heading to play basketball and volleyball.

The right turning lane from Stud Road into Mcfees Road will be extended, and direct access between Mcfees Road and the two Stud Road service roads will be closed to minimise the risk of accidents at the intersection.

Locals using public transport on their commute will also benefit from these upgrades, with improvements to make bus stop facilities near the intersection more accessible.

The two bus stops on the eastern side of Stud Road will be combined and moved closer to the Mcfees Road intersection, along with the bus stop on the western side which will also have a raised pedestrian crossing constructed to connect the bus stop with the Stud Road service road.

In 2024, the Allan Labor Government implemented a speed reduction to 60km/h along Stud Road between Cheam Street and Heatherton Road to improve safety following an accident resulting in the tragic loss of a child’s life.

These latest works are anticipated to begin in July, with an expected completion in December depending on the weather.

Following these construction works, crews will begin work on a shared user path connection for pedestrians and bike riders between the Mcfees Road intersection and the Dandenong Creek Trail.

This project is being delivered thanks to $12.6 million joint investment by the Albanese and Allan Labor Governments through the Road Safety Program.
