IMPROVED ACCESS TO HOUSING FOR VULNERABLE VICTORIANS

The Andrews Labor Government is improving access to quality affordable accommodation for Victoria’s most vulnerable residents.

Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation Jane Garrett has approved more than $4.86 million for affordable housing projects in Dandenong, Coburg and Doncaster through the Victorian Property Fund.

The projects will provide housing for disadvantaged tenants and low income earners, including families escaping domestic violence, people with disabilities and mental health issues, indigenous Victorians and older renters.

In Dandenong, $2.7 million of funding will go to Common Equity Housing for 20 affordable housing units for older and disabled residents at Harmony Village Dandenong.

In Coburg, more than $1.6 million in funding will go to the Victorian Women’s Housing Association to build a seven-unit affordable housing complex for low-income women and their children.

In Doncaster, $550,000 will go to Community Housing (Vic) Ltd to help purchase two 2-bedroom townhouses for young people with an intellectual disability.

The 2015-16 Victorian Budget provides for $22 million in funding towards important property-related community causes, including building more social housing and protecting publicly accessible heritage places.

The Victorian Property Fund (VPF) is a trust fund established under the Estate Agents Act 1980. Income for the fund comes from licence fees and fines paid by estate agents and conveyancers, interest on trust accounts of licensed estate agents and conveyancers, and investment income.
