Member for Dandenong Gabrielle Williams said the 16-day Victoria Against Violence campaign, beginning 25 November this year, will highlight the devastating impact of family violence across Dandenong and the state.<\/p>\n
The community-based initiative is timed to coincide with the United Nations\u2019 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign, which begins on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November 2015) and concludes on International Human Rights Day (10 December 2015).<\/p>\n
The 16 days of Victoria Against Violence will provide a number of platforms to engage and educate the wider community about the link between family violence and gender inequality.<\/p>\n
Gabrielle Williams said a range of events would be held across Victoria, including the Walk Against Family Violence taking place in Central Dandenong on Tuesday 24th<\/sup> November.<\/p>\n As part of the campaign, Parliament House and other landmarks will also \u201cgo orange\u201d \u2013 the colour designated by the UN Secretary-General\u2019s UNiTE to End Violence Against Women campaign.<\/p>\n Gabrielle Williams urged local residents and community groups to visit the Victoria Against Violence online calendar and to register, or be a part of, events happening across the state.<\/p>\n The Labor Government has established Australia\u2019s first Royal Commission into Family Violence.
