Work is underway to upgrade the intersection of the Princes Highway and Robinson Street in Dandenong to improve safety, traffic flow and accessibility for locals.
\nThe Andrews Labor Government has invested $1.7 million to install new traffic lights and turning lanes, with the City of Greater Dandenong providing an additional $500,000.
\nDouble right turn lanes will be added for drivers turning into Robinson Street and double left turn lanes will be new U-turn lanes for both directions on the Princes Highway.
\nOnce the upgrade is complete right turns from Robinson Street to the Princess Highway will be banned to keep the intersection moving. Drivers will be required to make a U-turn at nearby James Street.
\nThe new traffic lights at the intersection will also help pedestrians safely cross Princes Highway and Robinson Street, connecting with existing footpaths and complying with the Disability Discrimination Act.
\nThe intersection is one of the busiest in Melbourne\u2019s east, with over 35,000 vehicles travelling through it daily.
\nThere have been 11 recorded crashes at the intersection over a five year period, four of those resulting in serious injuries.
\nVicRoads in collaboration with the City of Greater Dandenong are delivering the project. Works are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
