HELP FOR HOMELESS ON THE WAY

The Andrews Labor Government will provide 22 houses to assist people experiencing homelessness in Greater Dandenong through the Rapid Housing Assistance Program.

Labor Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, made the announcement as part of the Andrews government’s recent commitment of a further $109 million to help homeless people in our community get back on their feet.

The Government will work with 10 organisations to acquire 16 and lease six properties in Greater Dandenong, to assist those in need.

The package will support 19,000 people at risk of or experiencing homelessness over the next five years, providing targeted support for especially rough sleepers, young people and veterans.

To support young people in these situations get a job or study, the Government will invest $10.1 million to support young people in these situations with housing through board payments, housing subsidies and leasing arrangements until they are 21.

Building on our previous investments into improving and building new facilities, the Government will provide over $60 million to deliver:

  • 120 new or developed housing units
  • New accommodation with targeted support services in the West of Melbourne
  • Continuation of Rapid Housing for those in need
  • Development of 30 unit supported housing for women and children
  • Accommodation for people with severe mental illness in Frankston
