$400,000 AWARDED TO CITY OF GREATER DANDENONG TO BOOST SAFETY AND EMPLOYMENT

The Andrews Labor Government has awarded $400,000 to the City of Greater Dandenong to improve community safety and provide an economic boost to local companies and workers affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, today announced City of Greater Dandenong will receive funding to improve safety, security and space activation in Greater Dandenong.

This is one of 31 projects sharing in more than $5.6 million in funding under the 2020-21 Community Safety Infrastructure Grants, as part of the government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package.

The project will involve installation of CCTV, security infrastructure and community engagement within two key areas of the Dandenong CBD and at the Springvale Community Hub to improve safety and perceptions of safety.

The Community Safety Infrastructure Grants program provides up to $500,000 for projects that upgrade to public safety and security.

Projects will commence as soon as it is safe to do so, and where possible will engage employees through the Working for Victoria program, which prioritises employment for Victorians impacted by the pandemic.

The grants are part of the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program which helps prevent crime and keep Victorian communities safe.
